I Got My First STD at 24 from a Married Woman in Ibadan. The Clinic Visit Was Pure Fear.
This was 2021, I was 24, fresh from NYSC, and posted to Ibadan for my first proper job. I met this woman at a bar near Bodija , she was 38, married, with two kids. She said her husband was always traveling. I was young and stupid, and the attention felt good.
We started seeing each other regularly. She would come to my apartment in Agbowo after dropping her kids at school. I never asked questions. I was just enjoying the ride. After about three months, I noticed a strange discharge and this burning sensation when I was urinating. Omo, I almost collapsed. I knew what it could be, but I was praying it was just an infection from something else.
I went to a clinic at Oke-Ado alone on a Saturday morning. I sat there for two hours, sweating, watching every person who walked in. When the doctor called me, my hands were shaking. He took samples, asked questions I didn't want to answer. The diagnosis was gonorrhea. I was so ashamed I couldn't even look him in the eye.
I got treated, paid 12,000 naira for the drugs, and never told her. I just stopped answering her calls. She called me a dog, said I used her. Maybe I did. But the fear of that clinic visit , the thought of having something permanent , changed me completely. I haven't been careless since. To every young man reading this: wrap up before you tap in. That shame is not worth the pleasure. Trust me, I know.
