One man stood alone against state police bill

So yesterday in the House of Reps, 289 lawmakers voted YES for state police but one man, Bashir Usman from Kaduna, voted NO. And the thing is, his constituency is one of the areas where bandits and kidnappers don tire people. You would expect him to support anything that brings security closer to home.

But when I read his reason, I actually get where he is coming from. He said they received the document that same afternoon and were expected to vote on it immediately. He stood up and said, "We cannot know what is in this constitution review committee issue. Allow us to go back and study this book and come back and discuss about this issue." The Speaker overruled him and they pushed it through.

Now I am not saying state police is bad. We need it. But 289 people voting YES for something they barely read? That is not democracy. That is rubber stamping. Bashir Usman might have been the only one thinking straight that day. Am I wrong?
