My neighbour's generator nearly landed him in prison yesterday

See ehn, the law is not a respecter of persons. My neighbour, Mr. Adekunle, has been running his generator every night for three years straight. 11pm, 12am, doesn't matter. The guy behind him finally got fed up and sued him for nuisance under the Criminal Code. I told Mr. Adekunle to come to court and settle but he said he has a right to light. I dey tell you, the magistrate read him the riot act. Section 199 of the Criminal Code says if your noise disturbs the peace, you can be fined or even jailed. The man nearly spent the weekend in the cell over a generator.

Na wa oh. People don't understand that your right to use your property stops where your neighbour's peace begins. The judge ordered him to either soundproof his generator room or run it only between 7am and 9pm. He had to pay a fine of ₦50,000 and court costs. Chai. That money could have bought fuel for a month.
