‘We won’t keep quiet’ — Nsukka Diocese to Mbah’s aide over Ogige Market demolition
5 months ago
The Catholic Diocese of Nsukka has rejected claims that its Bishop's comments on the Ogige Market demolition were political, calling them part of his pastoral duty. In a statement yesterday, the Diocese accused Reuben Onyishi, Senior Special Assistant to Governor Peter Mbah, of dragging the Bishop into political controversy. The Bishop spoke at the burial of catechist John Attah, who reportedly died after a stroke following the demolition of his shop and family members' shops at Ogige Market.
"The duty of a shepherd is to speak against injustice and the suffering of the people, whether the action comes from a friend, an ally, or a stranger," the statement said. The Diocese urged Onyishi to stop politicising the Bishop's message, adding that Governor Mbah is not known for intimidation. It reaffirmed its commitment to defending human dignity and guiding leaders through moral counsel.
