‘We thought it was a scammer’ — Mayorkun’s mother recounts first encounter with Davido
5 months ago
Actress Toyin Adewale, mother of singer Mayorkun, has revealed she initially thought Davido was a scammer when the superstar first contacted her son via social media.
Speaking on the Talk to B podcast on Saturday, Adewale recalled that after a viral cover, Davido messaged Mayorkun. “We thought it was a scammer,” she said. Davido later called, and Mayorkun “almost went crazy” with excitement. Davido requested measurements and later gave Mayorkun and his brother a box of gifts and money. Despite her initial fear, Adewale noted that Davido was “very pleasant and respectful” when she visited. The meeting led to the recording of the hit song “Eleko,” after which Mayorkun moved in with Davido. Adewale credited Mayorkun’s choir background and love for poetry for making the transition seamless.
