Chimamanda Accuses Lagos Hospital Of Cover-Up Over Son’s Death, Seeks Justice
5 months ago
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has accused Euracare Multi-Specialist Hospital in Lagos of attempting to cover up the death of her 21-month-old son, Nkanu Nnamdi Adichie-Esege, following a medical procedure earlier this year. In a letter published on her Facebook page yesterday, the author alleged that the hospital’s Medical Director, Dr. Tosin Majekodunmi, initially admitted that anesthesiologist Dr. Titus Ogundare administered an excessive dose of propofol, causing hypoxic brain injury and cardiac arrest. Adichie claimed the hospital later listed bacterial and fungal meningitis as the cause of death on the death certificate, which she insisted has no medical basis. The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria has suspended Dr. Ogundare, Dr. Majekodunmi, and Dr. Atinuke Uwajeh pending disciplinary proceedings. Adichie stated, “To keep silent about Euracare’s evil is to enable it.”
