Atiku just called out Tinubu on insecurity and he is not wrong

Atiku Abubakar released a statement yesterday and he did not hold back. He said Nigeria is losing the fight against banditry and terrorism under President Tinubu, and he used the death of retired Major General Abubakar Rabe as proof. This man was a former Army Spokesperson and Director of Defence Information, abducted alongside his wife on May 30 in Katsina state. He died in captivity from diabetes and hypertension complications. If a retired general cannot be safe in this country, what are we even saying?

Atiku also pointed out that on the same day we were mourning General Rabe, terrorists attacked Kautikari community in Chibok, Borno state and set primary and secondary schools on fire. Chibok is not just a place, it is a national wound that has not healed since 2014 when over 270 schoolgirls were taken. Twelve years later and families are still broken. So now we have bandits killing retired generals and terrorists burning schools on the same day. This is not progress by any measure.

I know some people will say Atiku is just politicking because 2027 is coming. But look at the facts. The man is stating what is happening. You cannot tell me security has improved when a man who spent his life defending Nigeria dies in the hands of criminals. Something is fundamentally wrong and pretending otherwise is dangerous. Be honest, do you feel safer today than you did in 2023?
