Two years ago, I close the biggest deal of my sales life. A construction company for Port Harcourt, order for industrial valves. The commission was ₦350,000. I swear, I was already planning how to use the money.

My colleague, Emeka, he was the one who introduce me to the client. He say make I handle the paperwork, he go handle the follow-up. I trust am because we be friends from church.

After the deal close, I wait for my commission. One week. Two weeks. Nothing. When I ask my manager, he say Emeka already collect the full commission. The guy tell management say he bring the client and he do all the work.

E pain me die. I wanted to expose am in front of everybody. But my manager, Mr. Ade, he call me quiet and say, "Chidi, this Lagos. You fit fight am and win, but you go lose the peace. Or you fit learn and move."

I choose to keep quiet. But I never work with Emeka again. That day teach me say, trust is good but paper is better. Now I sign everything. Even with my pastor.
