The way Nigerian men carry their girlfriend's bag in public
5 months ago
I was at the park last weekend and I saw something that made me stop and think. A big burly guy, muscles everywhere, walking with his lady. She is carrying nothing. He is carrying her small pink handbag on one shoulder like he is going to a fashion show.
Now I am not judging the man. But I am looking at the bag. It is so small that only one of his fingers can fit through the strap. He is walking tall like he conquered a war. Meanwhile my own mother will see me carry bag for my wife and she will say, 'Kola, did your father ever carry my bag? You are too soft.' But the girlfriend is smiling. The guy is smiling. Everybody is happy.
Then I remember that the same man who carries pink bag today will be the same man who will fight you for parking space tomorrow. Nigerian men are complex creatures. We carry bags for love but we will carry machete for land. No balance at all.
