Sowore is right about power sector cartels and it hurts
5 months ago
Omoyele Sowore has said what many of us have known for years — that the corruption in Nigeria's power sector is so vast and deeply entrenched that only a sledgehammer can break it. He posted on X today that dismantling the cartel, democratising electricity, and delivering power to Nigerians is the only solution. And honestly, who can argue with that?
This is a man who saw this problem as far back as 2018, before even an APC operative admitted it publicly on a podcast. The same people who have been running the sector for decades are the ones benefiting from the darkness. They sell transformers that don't work, collect billions for maintenance contracts that never happen, and leave us paying for estimated bills while we buy generators and fuel at these crazy prices.
But here is where people will disagree with me. Some will say Sowore is just politicking for 2027. Others will say he has no solution beyond slogans. I say, look at the facts. The man has been consistent on this since 2018. If we cannot even agree that the power sector is run like a criminal enterprise, then we are not ready for the conversation. Be honest — when last did you have 24 hours of stable light in your area without touching your generator?
