CUPP Tells Tinubu to Resign Over Insecurity — And They Are Not Wrong
5 months ago
The Conference of United Political Parties has officially backed the House of Representatives Minority Caucus in calling on President Bola Tinubu to either show effective leadership or resign. CUPP acting National Chairman Chief Peter Ameh said it plainly: in a sane country, any elected official who cannot deliver results should honourably step aside. This is not opposition noise for the sake of it. This is a direct challenge to a government that keeps promising security and economic relief while Nigerians continue to suffer.
Let me be clear — I am not a fan of the opposition parties either. They have their own history of failure and betrayal. But when the Minority Caucus in the House and an umbrella body like CUPP both say the same thing on the same day, you have to ask yourself: what exactly has this administration done differently since the last election? Kidnappings have not stopped. Banditry has not reduced. The economy is still punishing ordinary people. At what point do we stop defending mediocrity and start demanding accountability?
Some will say this is just political grandstanding, that CUPP is irrelevant, that the Minority Caucus has no real power. Maybe that is true. But the question remains: if the people elected to represent us are now telling the President to resign, what are we supposed to think? Be honest — would you keep your job if your colleagues publicly said you were failing and should leave?
