How Police Use IPOB Label To Cover Up Political Killings In South-East
5 months ago
The assassination of Labour Party senatorial candidate Chief Oyibo Chukwu in Enugu East on February 22, 2023, just days before the election, has exposed a disturbing pattern. Within hours of the attack, the Enugu State Police Command publicly blamed IPOB/ESN renegades. No evidence was presented. Three years later, his brother Chief Lucky Chukwu told SaharaReporters that the police abandoned genuine investigation and mysteriously withdrew security from the area a day before the killing.
This is not an isolated case. Chief Dons Udeh was abducted in April 2023 and found dead near 9th Mile. His phone was reportedly discovered in front of Ogui Police Station. Kelvin Ezeoha, an APC youth leader, was killed in January 2022. His widow Chidimma said after four years and five months, no one has been arrested. The IPOB narrative is being used to bury accountability for political violence, and families are left without justice.
When the governor did not issue a statement for Oyibo Chukwu but rushed to give Dons Udeh's family N5 million, you have to ask: who is being protected here?
