IPOB Suspends Nnamdi Kanu as Leader Over Prison Communications
5 months ago
The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has suspended the Office of its Leader, Nnamdi Kanu, and the position of Director of Radio Biafra. This decision came after a full-house meeting of the IPOB Directorate on Wednesday, where intelligence reports concerning Kanu's communications from Sokoto prison were reviewed. A statement signed by Mazi Chikadibia Edoziem, Head of the Directorate of State, announced the suspension on Thursday.
The group stated that certain unguarded communications from Kanu to those in Biafraland have caused unnecessary arrests and deaths of IPOB family members. The leadership noted that Kanu's visitors and activities are heavily monitored by the DSS, and expressed concern over a separate plan to set up a new militia. The suspension is meant to prevent unchecked actions and reckless utterances from resulting in further arrests and needless deaths of Biafran youths.
This development follows reports that Kanu had dissolved the 3rd Administration of the Directorate of State and appointed US-based Mazi Chris Nwaแปgแปฅ as the new Head. The suspension raises serious questions about the future of the movement and whether this is an internal power struggle or a genuine security measure. What does this mean for the Biafra struggle going forward?
