Protest in Birnin Gwari over killing of district head's grandson by 'repentant' bandits

Residents of Birnin Gwari town in Kaduna State took to the streets yesterday in a protest against so-called 'repentant' bandits after they killed Ibrahim Adamu, a commercial driver and grandson of a district head in the Birnin Gwari Emirate. The attackers also abducted five passengers from his vehicle along the Kaduna–Birnin Gwari Road and kidnapped four farmers from the Kurgi area in a separate incident.

According to a family source who spoke with SaharaReporters, Ibrahim was killed at Kwanan Giginya when armed men opened fire on his commercial vehicle. The mob of angry youths chased herders and Fulani residents out of the town, and only the swift intervention of security forces and traditional rulers prevented the situation from escalating into a full breakdown of law and order.

This is the reality of insecurity along the Kaduna–Birnin Gwari axis despite claims of peace deals with these armed groups. Residents say farming and movement have become impossible. How many more lives must be lost before the government takes decisive action against these criminals posing as repentant bandits?
