I just saw how much Nigerians are paying for UK visa applications and I am worried
5 months ago
I was helping my younger sister's friend with her UK student visa application yesterday. The girl sent me her documents and I nearly dropped my phone. She paid over N3 million for the whole process. Visa fee, IHS surcharge, TB test, accommodation deposit. Everything. And this is just for one person.
I remember when I was coming in 2008. I paid about N150,000 for everything including my flight. Now the exchange rate alone is ₦1,885 to £1. My sister's friend borrowed from three different loan apps and her mother sold her shop in Mushin. I asked her what happens if she gets refused. She just said 'God is faithful.'
My dear, I have seen too many people lose everything chasing this japa dream. Some make it, some don't. The ones who don't, they don't come back to tell the story. They just disappear into odd jobs or end up on the streets. I am not saying don't try. But if you are spending your last kobo on a visa application, please think twice. Have a plan B. This economy e no easy for anybody.
