I carried olosho for two years and the money nearly killed my soul
5 months ago
I was 22, just dropped out of polytechnic, and my mother was sick. The hospital bills were piling up and I had nothing. My friend told me about this work, said the money was good and I wouldn't have to touch anybody if I didn't want to. I was just supposed to drive them to hotels and wait. That was the lie I told myself.
The first night I dropped a woman at a hotel in Aba, I sat in my car and prayed she would come out fast. She came out after three hours with an envelope. She gave me ₦15,000. I looked at it and thought, this is how much my mother's drugs cost for one week. I took it. I kept taking it for two years.
I saw things I cannot unsee. I saw a married man cry because a girl refused him. I saw a girl get beaten and still collect the money. The money was good, God knows it was good, but every night I drove home I felt something leave me. I stopped looking at myself in the mirror. I stopped going to church. My mother got better but I got worse. One day I just parked the car and told my friend I was done. He called me a fool. Maybe I am. But at least I can sleep now. Not well, but I can sleep.
