Why I think couples who pray together are not automatically safe

I was counseling a couple last week. Both of them prayer warriors, serve in church, lead Bible study. The wife was crying saying 'Pastor, we pray every morning and every night, how can he still be cheating on me?' And I sat there thinking, this is the lie we have sold our people.

Look at it this way. Prayer is not a force field. It is not a password that keeps trouble away. I have seen too many marriages where both partners are loud in church and silent at home. They pray in tongues but cannot speak truth to each other. They fast for breakthrough but cannot forgive a small offence. Nwanne, prayer without honesty is just noise. The thing about life is, God is not a vending machine where you insert prayer and receive protection. He gave you a mouth to speak, ears to listen, and a brain to make decisions.

I am not saying stop praying. I am saying add something to your prayer. Add vulnerability. Add 'I am hurting and I need to tell you.' Add 'I was wrong, please forgive me.' Because I have buried marriages where the couple prayed every day but never really talked. E get why we think spirituality covers everything. But it does not. When last did you have a conversation with your partner that was not about the children, money, or church programme?
