Journalists attacked during Ekiti election coverage
4 months ago
Two journalists were attacked by suspected hoodlums in Iyin-Ekiti yesterday during the Ekiti governorship election. Yinusa Ishola of NAN and Razak Ibrahim of The Nation were covering voting at Polling Unit 10, Ward B when EFCC operatives arrived to monitor alleged vote buying.
The hoodlums became angry at the EFCC presence and turned on the journalists when they identified them. They had to jump into their vehicle and speed off to escape, sustaining minor injuries. Ishola lost his office identity card in the chaos.
This is what happens when thugs are allowed to operate freely during elections. The question is who sent them and why they were so determined to chase out anti-graft agents from that polling unit.
