Bandits getting support from people in power — Ex-NYSC DG Tsiga

Brig-Gen Maharazu Tsiga, a former Director-General of the NYSC, dropped a bombshell yesterday in Kaduna. He said bandits terrorising our communities may be receiving backing from powerful individuals in government and other positions of authority. This is not speculation — this is a retired general who was himself kidnapped earlier this year from his hometown in Katsina.

Tsiga recounted his harrowing time in captivity, including a chilling moment when he heard someone call the bandit leader at 2 a.m. and ask, 'Please, Kachala, are you ready to buy 10 cartons of ammunition?' When Tsiga jokingly asked to be let in on the business, the bandit leader replied, 'You are a retired general. You don't have office. We are talking to people who are in office now.'

So the question is simple: who are these people in power buying ammunition for bandits at 2 a.m.? How long will we keep pretending this is just a security problem when it is clearly a political one?
