Ekiti Election: ADC Candidate Alleges Vote Buying, Driver Hospitalized

K

Yesterday, Dare Bejide, the ADC candidate for the Ekiti governorship election, alleged that APC leaders were openly buying votes at his polling unit in Ilawe-Ekiti. He said his driver was assaulted and had to be taken to the hospital. This is not a small matter.

Bejide's son, Olumide Bejide, said APC chieftains flooded all polling units in Ilawe with money, distributing to voters. He said the money they were throwing about was enough to fix all the bad roads in Ekiti. That is a powerful statement. Meanwhile, APC chieftain Makinde Araoye denied everything, claiming the election was peaceful and that Bejide tried to stop him from monitoring the ward.

As of last night, neither the police nor INEC had issued any statement. So who do we believe? And more importantly, who will hold these people accountable when the votes are counted and the winner is declared? This is the kind of thing that makes people lose faith in the process entirely.
