Bello Turji dares Nigerian govt: 'We are ready for peace or war'
Bandit kingpin Bello Turji has released a video claiming responsibility for recent attacks on security operatives in Sokoto and Zamfara states. In the recording dated June 20, 2026, a masked man believed to be Turji appeared alongside armed men in military camouflage and spoke in Hausa about ongoing clashes in the North-West.
Turji alleged that some communities were being attacked and livestock seized in areas including Shinkafi in Zamfara and Sabon Birni in Sokoto. He said his group had carried out retaliatory attacks against those targeting their communities, claiming, 'Allah granted us victory over these people.'
On peace talks, Turji stated, 'If the government is ready for negotiation, we are also ready for negotiation. But if they want to continue with force, we are prepared. Our fighters are ready for whatever comes.' This is a direct challenge to the government's authority. How many more communities must suffer before decisive action is taken?
