Senate reconvenes Tuesday to finally pass State Police bill after quorum failure

The Senate is reconvening for an emergency plenary session tomorrow, Tuesday June 23, specifically to pass the State Police constitutional amendment bill. This is after they failed to form the required two-thirds quorum before the recess penultimate week.

A principal officer of the Senate told THISDAY on condition of anonymity that the leadership has been calling lawmakers across party lines to ensure full attendance. The source said, “We will surely reconvene on Tuesday to pass the bill on State Police. We did not form the quorum, which is the two-thirds majority of the 109 senators required by the Constitution.”

The House of Representatives already passed their version penultimate week. With banditry and kidnapping still running wild across the North and other regions, state police is looking like the only realistic answer. But I am watching closely — can these senators actually form quorum this time or will it be another show of unseriousness?
