Okowa visits EFCC again — what is he hiding?
Former Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa was at the EFCC Lagos office on Awolowo Road yesterday, still trying to explain the missing derivation funds. The anti-graft agency has been investigating him since November 2024 over allegations that he diverted part of the 13 per cent derivation allocation Delta received between 2015 and 2023 into private investments and assets across the country.
Sources say Okowa was there to beg for his international passport back so he can travel for medical treatment. But nobody has forgotten that this is the same man who was Atiku's running mate in 2023, the same man who defected to APC in April 2025 and still secured the Delta North senatorial ticket for 2027. The EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale did not respond to calls yesterday, so we don't know if they gave him his passport back.
No charges have been filed yet, but this investigation has been running since late 2024. How long does it take to decide whether a former governor stole public funds or not? The silence from the commission is deafening.
