Sowore's arrest is a national disgrace — Timi Frank calls for immediate release
4 months ago
Timi Frank, former deputy national publicity secretary of the APC, has demanded the immediate release of activist and presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore. In a statement today, Frank described Sowore's arrest by the DSS as a national disgrace and a dangerous assault on democracy. He said Sowore committed no offense and that the arrest is politically motivated to intimidate opposition figures against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration.
Frank stated, "The arrest of Omoyele Sowore is a disgrace and a show of shame by the DSS. It is nothing but political victimisation and a desperate attempt to intimidate opposition leaders and silence voices of dissent in the country." A Federal High Court in Abuja had ordered Sowore remanded at Kuje Correctional Center pending the hearing of his application challenging the revocation of his bail. Justice Mohammed Umar dismissed Sowore's motion for recusal over alleged bias and adjourned the motion for stay of execution till June 24.
How many more dissenting voices will the government silence before we call this what it is — a slide into full authoritarianism?
