Peter Obi warning about Sowore remand is the wake up call we all need

Peter Obi don come out to talk about Omoyele Sowore wey dem remand for Kuje Correctional Centre. The man say this kind move is dangerous for democracy. I read the statement on his page and e get one part wey hit me: "When we begin to treat citizen critics, activists and journalists as threats to state survival rather than as partners in building accountability, we signal a dangerous slide toward authoritarianism."

Na true word. We dey see am everyday — people wey talk too much dey find themselves inside detention. The economy dey bad, security dey bad, and instead of government to focus on those things, they dey chase activists. Obi talk say citizen activists and journalists should be seen as stakeholders, not threats. I agree with am 100%. But I know some people go say "Obi just dey talk for politics" or "Sowore deserve am because of his past comments."

Abeg, let's be honest here. If we start supporting the arrest of people we disagree with, where does it end? Tomorrow na your own mouth go land you inside Kuje. Be honest, you think Sowore's remand is justified or this is pure political persecution?
