Kaduna Governor Uba Sani's Critic Jonah 'Pompo' Bonnet Arrested in Abuja
4 months ago
Jonah Bonnet, known as Pompo and a fierce critic of Kaduna Governor Uba Sani, has been arrested by security operatives at his residence in Abuja. His brother Mark Bonnet confirmed that operatives stormed their home at about 8:30 p.m., pulling him from his vehicle immediately after his wife opened the gate.
Bonnet was a vocal critic of the APC primary elections in Kaduna, accusing Governor Sani of imposing candidates despite public promises of consensus-based primaries. He resigned from the APC and joined the NDC, becoming their candidate for the Kaura Constituency seat in the Kaduna State House of Assembly. His family alleges he is being taken to Kaduna for detention and arraignment as part of a broader crackdown on opposition voices.
This arrest comes amid concerns over the detention of another critic, Mycah Dangata, who has reportedly been in custody for nearly two weeks after urging voters to reject President Tinubu and Governor Sani in the 2027 elections. How long will this pattern of silencing dissent continue?
