The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed they are investigating a case where the Managing Director of First Bank, Oluwasegun Alebiosu, received a parcel containing live ammunition at his residence in Ikoyi. Commissioner of Police Tijani Fatai confirmed this on Tuesday during a press briefing in Ikeja, stating that when the parcel was opened, two rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition were discovered.

According to the CP, no suspect has been arrested yet. The police are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the Ikoyi axis to identify the dispatch rider who delivered the package. The parcel reportedly had no identifiable details of the sender, which made tracing difficult at the initial stage. Mr Alebiosu has provided some names of persons he suspects, but the police say those are still part of ongoing investigative leads.

This incident has triggered internal security concerns within the bank, especially as it coincides with ongoing loan recovery and restructuring measures. The police spokesperson Abimbola Adebisi has assured the public that the SCID has taken over the investigation and urged residents to remain vigilant. The question on my mind is this — how does a dispatch rider deliver live ammunition to a bank MD's home in Ikoyi without being traced immediately? Something is not adding up here.
