EFCC Storm Governor Oyebanji's Polling Unit in Ekiti
4 months ago
EFCC officials stormed Governor Biodun Oyebanji's polling unit in Ekiti last Saturday, and I must say this is a significant development for our democracy. About 10 operatives arrived at Polling Unit 003 in Ikogosi around 9:05am, just after voting started at 8:30am. They were monitoring activities amid growing concerns over vote-buying in the election.
What caught my attention is that only an agent of the APC was present at the governor's unit, despite multiple parties contesting. The unit has 668 registered voters, yet no opposition agents were there to observe. This raises questions about the level of competition in that particular area.
The EFCC did not make any arrests, but their presence alone sends a strong message. With INEC and civil society groups repeatedly warning against vote-buying, this election is under intense scrutiny. Do you think the EFCC's presence will actually deter electoral offences, or is it just for show?
