Peter Obi calls Sowore's remand a dangerous slide to authoritarianism
4 months ago
Peter Obi has openly condemned the court order that sent Omoyele Sowore to Kuje prison over a social media post where he called President Tinubu a criminal. Obi said this is a dangerous regression for our democracy and warned that treating citizen critics as threats instead of accountability partners is a worrying slide toward authoritarianism.
The opposition leader released a statement on Tuesday saying a thriving democracy cannot survive on silencing opposing voices. He argued that our pressing challenges, from economic hardship to insecurity, demand inclusive dialogue, not tactical intimidation of critics.
The question nobody wants to answer is simple: if calling a president a criminal is now a remandable offence, where exactly are we heading as a country?
