I Have a Secret Bank Account My Husband Knows Nothing About for Five Years Now

I am 34, married for eight years, with two children. We live in Ilorin. My husband is a good man, a civil servant, but he has this thing about money , if it enters his hand, it must be spent before the month ends. Not on anything bad o, just on helping people, family, friends, church contributions. He will give out our last kobo and say God will provide. Five years ago, I started a small business selling dried pepper and spices from my mother's village. I told him it was just to keep busy. But the truth is, I was tired of begging him for transport fare to take the children to hospital. I was tired of the shame of borrowing from my neighbour when school fees were due. So I opened an account he does not know about. I put every profit from that business inside. Small small. Sometimes 2,000 naira, sometimes 5,000. Last year I added a POS business in front of our house. He thinks it belongs to my younger sister. It does not. It is mine. Today, I have 470,000 naira in that account. Nobody knows. Not my mother, not my pastor, not my best friend. If my husband finds out, he will call me a witch. He will say I am hiding things from him, that I do not trust him. And he will be right. I do not trust him with our survival. I love my husband. But love does not feed children. Love does not pay hospital bills. This money is my peace of mind. If he ever finds out, our marriage will break. But if I had not done it, we would have broken long ago. Lesson I learned: Sometimes the person you married cannot be trusted with your future. And that is not a sin to admit. It is just survival.
