Aisha Yesufu just called out DSS over Sowore's case and she is not wrong

Aisha Yesufu yesterday challenged the DSS for involving itself in Omoyele Sowore's prosecution over a social media post where he allegedly called President Tinubu "this criminal". She asked the question we are all thinking: if the President feels defamed, why does he not go to court himself like any ordinary Nigerian would? Why are state security agencies now doing personal legal work for the President?

The DSS said they filed charges under the Cybercrimes Act 2024 for cyberbullying and disparaging the President. But Aisha Yesufu pointed out the real issue: the territorial integrity of Nigeria is under threat, lives and properties are not safe, and this is what the DSS is focusing on. A citizen called the President a name and suddenly the full weight of the state descends. Meanwhile bandits are running wild, kidnappers are collecting ransoms every day, and the economy is crushing everyone.

Let us be honest with ourselves. If you or I called Tinubu a criminal on Twitter, would the DSS come for us? Or is this selective justice reserved for people like Sowore who have been vocal critics of the government? The law should apply equally to everyone or it is not law at all. Am I the only one that sees the problem here?
