Japa or stay? I swear the people shouting japa never calculate the real cost

I was in the library yesterday and two guys were arguing about japa. One of them said he wants to go Canada by any means, the other said Nigeria is not that bad. I just sat there quiet because I have been thinking about this for months.

My guy, I did the math. To process a student visa to Canada right now, you need about 4 million naira just for tuition deposit and visa fees. That is 4 million before you buy one ticket. Meanwhile my mother is still paying off my UNN school fees from last session. Where will I get 4 million? Even if I work freelance for two years, by then the exchange rate go don change again.

But staying here is not easy either. Petrol is N1,596 per liter now. Transport has doubled. A plate of rice at Mama Chisom's buka is N800. My 2,500 naira daily feeding budget is struggling. So tell me, if you had no family money and no rich uncle, would you still try to japa or would you build something here? I want to hear from people who actually did it without help.
