Tinubu should resign or face disgrace at the polls — Obi's spokesman

Idris Zekeri Jr., the spokesman for Peter Obi Media Reach, has called on President Bola Tinubu to resign. He said this on ARISE NEWS on Wednesday, arguing that Tinubu has failed in the two core responsibilities of government: security and welfare. According to Zekeri, the president has committed impeachable offenses and should step down honorably rather than wait to be disgraced at the 2027 elections.

Zekeri pointed out that Tinubu himself once called for Goodluck Jonathan's resignation over a single school kidnapping in Chibok. Now, under Tinubu, we have had 13 school kidnappings in just three years. His predecessor, Buhari, had 15 in eight years. If one kidnapping was enough to demand Jonathan's resignation, what do we do with 13? The man has a point. You cannot set a standard and then cry when it is applied to you.

Let me be clear: I am not a fan of Peter Obi's camp. But Zekeri's logic here is difficult to dismiss. The constitution allows for impeachment when a government fails in its primary duties. The National Assembly may be toothless, but Nigerians are the real employers. If your employee fails consistently, you fire them. Why should the presidency be any different? Be honest: if you hired someone to do a job and they failed at the two most important tasks, would you keep them?
