The day my phone got snatched and a bike man saved me

I was walking through Yaba market last week, phone in hand, checking a client's message. Before I could react, some guy just grabbed it and took off. Fast. I stood there for a second, thinking, is this how my day ends? Then a bike man, complete stranger, just zoomed past me and chased the thief. I don't know why he did it. Maybe he was bored. Maybe he just hates thieves.

Ten minutes later he comes back, sweating, holding my phone. He said, 'Oga, I catch am for Oyingbo bridge. The guy drop am when I almost hit am.' I tried to give him something small but he refused. Said I should just be more careful next time. I still gave him something when he wasn't looking. These are the people that make Lagos make sense.

I've been thinking about that moment. How easy it is to lose something important, and how quickly a stranger can restore your faith. The lesson is not about being more careful. It's about remembering that even in this chaotic city, there are still people who will fight for you without knowing your name.
