Peter Obi and Kwankwaso just lost their political party
4 months ago
Bashir Ahmad dropped this bomb yesterday on X and honestly the man has a point. The Federal High Court in Lokoja set aside the judgment that ordered INEC to register the NDC as a political party. So as of now, Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso have no legally recognised platform to contest the 2027 election. Bashir wrote clearly: "As things stand today, they have no legally recognised platform on which to pursue their political ambitions, as the NDC is not recognised by law."
Now I know some of you will say this is just court games and they will appeal. But the Peace Movement Party raised a valid point about not being joined in the original suit. Justice Isah Dashen said all relevant parties must be heard before any decision. That is basic justice. If you are going to form a coalition and register a new party, you better dot your i's and cross your t's.
This is the same problem we keep seeing in Nigerian opposition politics. Too much rushing, too many shortcuts. Meanwhile the ruling party is sitting there watching these legal battles. So let me ask you straight: is this the end of the Obi-Kwankwaso project before it even started, or will they find another way before 2027?
