My cousin just bought a N600k sound system for his Toyota Camry

I went to visit my cousin in Surulere today. The guy just dropped N600k on a sound system for his 2008 Toyota Camry. Not a house, not land, not even a good mattress. But his car can vibrate a whole street now.

I ran the calculation. That money could have been a solid down payment on a piece of land in Ibeju Lekki. Or funded a small business. Or at least paid for a proper inverter so NEPA stop stressing us. But he looked me dead in the eye and said 'Jide, a man must enjoy his life.' Enjoy what exactly? Sitting in Lekki traffic for three hours with bass that makes your chest hurt?

I am not saying don't buy nice things. But the numbers don't lie. We spend so much on things that depreciate while wondering why we never move forward. He said I am a boring engineer. Maybe I am. But my boring savings account can survive an emergency.
