A man who ran Nigeria's entire financial system is in court begging a judge not to believe what he wrote while locked up for five months. He says the DSS held him incommunicado, starved him of contact, and squeezed statements out of him that the EFCC now wants to use to nail him for $4.5bn fraud. If your own confession can be thrown out because you were tortured, what does that say about every EFCC or DSS case that never gets this scrutiny?
