Trump claims his airstrikes saved Nigerian Christians. Is this true?

Donald Trump has said the US missile strikes in Nigeria ended the killing of Christians in our country. He said this during an event in Washington over the weekend. According to him, the operation largely ended the slaughter of great Christian populations, with thousands being butchered, including children, women, and old people.

Now, we know that in December 2025, the US launched airstrikes on ISIS terrorists in Sokoto. And in May, more than 20 ISWAP fighters were killed in joint US-Nigeria strikes in Borno. The military confirmed this. But the question is, did these strikes actually stop attacks on Christians specifically? Or is Trump using our suffering to score political points back home?

I am not saying the strikes were not helpful. But the way he talks, you would think Nigeria is a Christian nation being persecuted by Muslims, when the reality is that Boko Haram and ISWAP kill everyone, Christian and Muslim alike. He even compared it to Iran, saying it is about stopping nuclear weapons. So I am asking, who really benefits from this narrative? Is it us, or is it his image as the protector of Christians worldwide?
