My 2,500 naira daily feeding budget is teaching me things no lecturer can

Sunday morning and I'm calculating if I can afford egg with my bread or just bread and pure water. 2,500 naira for feeding in 2026 is like a joke that nobody is laughing at. My roommate said I should just cook beans and rice for the week but who has time for that when you have a test on Monday and no gas cylinder.

I was watching this video yesterday about how the average Nigerian student spends more time calculating survival than actually learning. And it hit me. The real education is happening outside the classroom. I know the exact price of everything in Enugu market. I know which buka gives you the biggest portion of jollof. I know how to stretch 500 naira to cover breakfast and lunch. These are skills no textbook teaches you.

Sometimes I wonder if the struggle is making us sharper or just tired. But one thing I know for sure, when I finally japa I will never complain about the price of bread again. Who else is out here doing mental maths before every meal?
