Bayo Onanuga said he doesn't see the hunger, and Nigerians are not forgiving him

Bayo Onanuga, the presidential media adviser, went on TV last week and said he doesn't see the level of hunger people are talking about. He also said the media is exaggerating insecurity, as if the abduction of 39 pupils and the slitting of Michael Oyedokun's throat is just a story. This is the same man who fought with his pen against military rule, and now he is dismissing the suffering of the very people he once stood for.

I understand that people change when they get close to power, but this is something else. The Yoruba have a saying: if the person you lean on shifts, they should at least warn you so you don't fall flat on your face. Onanuga did not warn anybody. He just woke up one day and decided that the hardship we are all feeling in Abuja and everywhere else is not real. Maybe he should come to Wuse market and see how much a tuber of yam costs now, or go to a public school and see children eating garri with salt because that is all their parents can afford.

When a man who used to be on the side of the people starts talking like this, it makes you wonder if power truly blinds people or if they just never really cared. Be honest, do you think Onanuga actually believes what he said, or is he just doing his job as a government spokesman?
