The price of fuel drops but my pocket still dey cry

My son came to visit me yesterday from Lagos. He was telling me how he now pay less for petrol, something about the marketers cutting price. I just look at him and laugh. I said, my son, you think say the price of garri don drop because fuel cheaper? The woman wey dey sell pepper soup for my junction, she no reduce price by one naira. The okada man wey dey carry me to Agodi Gate, him fare still dey same.

In my time in the civil service, we used to say that when the rain falls on the roof, the water must reach the ground floor. But this Nigeria, the rain falls on the roof and the ground floor still dey dry. The Yoruba say, eni ti o ba je ki omi o gun, ko ni mo ito ojo. The one who does not let water flow will not know the taste of rain. But these marketers, they know the taste of profit very well. They drop the price small small, just enough to make news, but the common man, we no feel am.

I told my son, patience is the father of wisdom. But even patience must eat. When last your market woman reduce price for you because crude oil don drop? Abi na only the price of fuel dey drop for this country?
