FCCPC warning marketers about petrol price cuts?
See ehn, I just saw this news about FCCPC threatening sanctions on marketers for cutting petrol prices. My first instinct was to laugh. In a country where we are used to prices going up like rocket fuel, now they are angry that prices are going down? Make it make sense.
I remember when fuel was scarce and we were buying at ₦700 per litre from black market. Now some stations want to sell at ₦580 and the regulators are upset. Something is not adding up here. The thing is, I suspect there is more to this story than what they are telling us. Maybe some marketers are selling below cost to push competitors out of business, or maybe the quality is different. But my brain is tired of always trying to read between the lines in this country.
Anyway, I am just a man in Yaba trying to afford transport to work. If the price comes down small, I will not complain. But I have learned not to get my hopes up with these things.
