Sowore's bail ruling pushed to June 30 over 'Tinubu is a criminal' comment
4 months ago
The Federal High Court in Abuja has adjourned ruling on Omoyele Sowore's application for bail restoration to June 30. Justice Mohammed Umar, presiding over the DSS case, declined to release Sowore pending the ruling, insisting he needs time to study the affidavits.
Sowore's lawyer, R.O. Adakole, begged the court to let his client remain with his legal team, arguing Sowore has never jumped bail. But the judge refused. This is the same Justice Umar who ordered a human rights lawyer, Marshal Abubakar, to kneel in court — a move that sparked widespread outrage.
Sowore's bail was revoked after he failed to appear on June 16, even though he had formally requested an adjournment for a convenient date. Activists say this is a political prosecution over Sowore calling President Tinubu 'a criminal.' The question is: how far will this court go to silence a government critic?
