DSS Blocked Sowore's Lawyers From Courtroom — This Is Pure Lawlessness
4 months ago
Last Wednesday, Omoyele Sowore was at the Federal High Court for his hearing, and what unfolded there was nothing short of a disgrace to our democracy. DSS operatives, heavily armed, blocked his lawyers, supporters, and even the National Secretary of the AAC, Oshiok Philip, from entering the courtroom. Philip confronted them, calling it an unconstitutional action, and told them not to let themselves be used as tools of the ruling class against dissenting voices.
This is the same DSS that days earlier stormed the courtroom and forcefully seized Sowore after Justice Mohammed Umar ordered his remand at Kuje Correctional Centre. They dragged him away like a criminal, injuring his arm in the process. SaharaReporters documented everything. This is not security, this is intimidation designed to silence anyone who dares to challenge the system.
I have watched Nigeria for decades, and I keep asking myself: when will we stop accepting this as normal? The DSS operates above the law, and nobody holds them accountable. Sowore remains one of the few Nigerians willing to speak truth to power, and they treat him like an enemy of the state. What kind of country are we building where the secret police can abduct a citizen from inside a court and face no consequences?
