Pastor Adeboye defending Tinubu on insecurity? I am not comfortable with this one

I just read what Pastor Enoch Adeboye said at the US-Nigeria Faith Heroes Award Gala in Washington D.C. and I am genuinely troubled. He said President Tinubu has done his bit by issuing directives to the military and we should not expect him to put on khaki and fight. He even compared it to Donald Trump giving orders. But this is Nigeria, not America. Our commanders are not accountable. Our military has been fighting Boko Haram for over a decade and the problem has spread to the South now. People are dying every day.

Pastor Adeboye himself admitted that insecurity has worsened and that terrorism and kidnapping have spread from the North to the South. He said the situation is so bad that people are questioning the presence of God. He even revealed that he personally discussed this with the President and the First Lady and urged Tinubu to give military commanders a 90-day ultimatum to eliminate terrorism or resign. So if the President has done his bit, why did Pastor Adeboye feel the need to suggest an ultimatum? That sounds like the President has not done enough.

I respect Pastor Adeboye deeply. He is a father in the faith. But telling Nigerians that the commander-in-chief has done his bit when our villages are being raided and people cannot travel safely on our roads feels dismissive. The cleric also said the sponsors of terrorism are known — businessmen and politicians — and that the government should go after them. That is the real issue. If the government knows who is funding these attacks and does nothing, then the President has not done his bit. Am I the only one who sees the contradiction here?
