Xenophobia hits again as Nigerian trader shot dead in South Africa on June 30 deadline day

Yesterday was the June 30 deadline these extremist groups in South Africa set for foreigners to leave, and true to their threat, a Nigerian man known as Big Joe was shot dead outside his shop in Witbank. This is not a drill, this is real life. The protests in Soweto and Johannesburg were massive and tense, and now one of our own has paid the ultimate price.

Meanwhile NANS President Dr. Meshach Nwankwo has threatened to shut down South African businesses in Nigeria within one week if this continues. The Federal Government is evacuating people — an Air Peace flight carrying 271 stranded Nigerians landed in Lagos this morning, bringing the total evacuees this month to nearly 600. But how many more will die before they stop this madness?

And on top of all this, former Miss Universe Nigeria runner-up Chidimma Adetshina is facing deportation from South Africa after she and her son were arrested in Cape Town for allegedly entering through the Mozambique border illegally. She has a court date July 16. So now our people are being killed and deported at the same time. When will this end?
