My husband said I should learn to cook better. I sent him a YouTube tutorial.

My dear, the audacity of these Nigerian men. I was on the phone with my sister in Ibadan yesterday, and she was telling me how her husband came back from work and complained that the stew was not sweet enough. This man, who has never stepped foot in the kitchen except to open the fridge for cold water, had the nerve to say she should 'learn from her mother'. She was so vexed she almost threw the pot at him.
I just laughed and told her the same thing I tell every woman who calls me with this kind of wahala. I said, 'Oya, send him the link to that YouTube channel where the Ghanaian woman teaches egusi soup. Let him learn himself.' Because see ehn, if the man knows how to criticise, he should know how to cook. My husband tried that nonsense with me once, back when we were still in the UK and I was working night shifts. I simply stopped cooking for one week. Made him buy takeaway every day. After spending £150 on Nando's and Chinese, he came back and said, 'Bose, your stew is the best in the world.' I tell you, the way these men will change their tune when their pockets start hurting is something else.
Anyway, my sister is still fuming. She said she will try my method. But I know her, she will end up cooking again by Friday because she cannot stand the sight of her husband eating indomie for dinner. Na wa oh. The things we do for love that these men will never appreciate.
