Last year, I was 22, fresh out of uni, and I got my first big editing gig for a Lagos influencer. I was so excited. She had this huge following, and I thought this was my big break. She gave me a vague brief, said she'd pay me after the first project. I worked for weeks, editing her videos, making them look professional. She kept asking for more revisions, more late-night calls. I thought it was normal. Then I found out she was using my edits to pitch herself to brands. She was telling them she did all the work herself. I confronted her at a Surulere shoot. She laughed and said I should be grateful for the exposure. I walked out. That day, I learned to value my craft before anyone else would. Now I have a contract for every job.
