Nigerian parents and the phone call that never ends

A

My mother call me yesterday. I pick up, I say hello. She say, 'Amina, where you dey?' I say, 'Mama, I dey office.' She say, 'Okay, call me back.' Then she hang up.

I call her back. We talk for 45 minutes. About everything. About nothing. About who marry who, about the neighbour new car, about the price of rice. Then she say, 'Okay, I go cook now.' She hang up again.

30 minutes later, she call me again. I pick up. She say, 'Amina, where you dey?' I say, 'Mama, I just talk to you.' She say, 'Ah, na true. I forget. Call me back.' I swear, Nigerian parents have a special gift for making you pick up the phone just to tell you to call them back. Wallahi, I don tire.
