My landlord just asked me for 'development fee' , 3 months after I paid rent

So I'm in my apartment in Lekki, minding my business, editing a video for a client. Landlord knocks. I open. He says, 'Chiamaka, we need to paint the building, your share is ₦85,000.'

I just stared at him. I paid my rent in full January. This man is asking me to fund his building maintenance. I asked him, 'Is this in my lease agreement?' He said, 'It's just what we do here.'

I am genuinely considering whether to pay or to start looking for a new place. The thing is, I know if I refuse, he will make my life difficult. But if I pay, where will the next demand stop? This Lagos life is really something else.
